Tur Dal Rasam

Ingredients
1) Tur dal - 1 glass 2) Ripe tomatoes - 3 3) Tamerind - of size of a small lemon 4) Cumin seed - 3 teaspoon 5) Garlic - 4 pods 6) Pepper corn / powder - 3 teaspoon 7) Curry leaves - few 8) Ghee / coconut oil - 2 tablespoon 9) Salt - to taste 10) Turmeric powder - 1 teaspoon 11) Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon Method 1) Cook the tur dal in a pressure cooker so that it looks like a paste 2) Cool the dal and mix with pepper, 2 teaspoonful of cumin seeds and garlic pods. 3) Grind the above mix in a mixer, after adding enough water 4) Soak the tamerind in little water and extract the pulp 5) Boil the tamerind water along with little more water and add the chopped tomatoes 6) When the tomatoes are cooked well, add salt, turmeric powder and the dal paste 7) Boil the above for 5-6 minutes and add little more water, if necessary. The rasam has to be watery and of soup consistency. 8)When done, heat ghee/coconut oil in a pan, add mustard and a teaspoon ful of cumin seeds and allow to splutter. Then add the curry leaves . tur dal rasam is now ready to serve!! |
