AHMEDABAD: He has the air of an aristocrat and mannerisms of a management graduate. But, for the moment, Eradiri Erepamo is cooling his heels in the crime branch lock-up . The 31-year-old Nigerian was picked up from Ahmedabad airport on Tuesday when he came to board a flight to north India. Eradiri is wanted in Ahmedabad for duping more than 50 people wanting to emigrate to countries such as Canada, Australia and the UAE, besides being suspected to be the kingpin of a Nigerian scam.
"We got information of Eradiri alias Jim Casey's visit to the city and kept a watch. While we did not know the real name, we had the description and photograph," said Mayur Chavda, assistant commissioner of police (crime). He suspects that Eradiri might be involved in similar frauds in other Indian states as well. Eradiri, who claims that his grandfather was the king of Bayelsa province of south Nigeria, was wanted in a 2010 case in which three persons have been arrested . Based on a complaint in October 2010, police had arrested Divyej Bhut, proprietor of Vidhi Visa Consultancy, Nehrunagar, and his brother-in-law , Hitesh Dathaliya, proprietor of Holiday Corner, Rajkot, for duping more than 50 persons promised visas to various countries. At that time, officials got to know that Nigerian and Ghana nationals were involved in the scam. They got name of one Jim Casey as the mastermind of the scam. |
