Bahrain marks Yoga Day
INTERNATIONAL Yoga Day was celebrated across Bahrain yesterday for the first time ever. The United Nations General Assembly declared in December last year that June 21 would become the new international day of yoga, following an earlier presentation by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on its many varied benefits. A number of different yoga and meditation sessions were held in schools and centres across the country yesterday. The Indian Embassy organised a session last night in co-operation with the Art of Living Bahrain Chapter at the Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam, which was attended by Indian Ambassador Designate Alok Sinha and featured an interactive session with yoga therapy specialist Fatima Al Mansoori. Also present was Bapco medical services manager Dr Spyridon Trous, Jaffcon Consultants chief executive Dr Akbar Jaffari and United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) acting director Samir Imtair Al Darabia. Meanwhile, students and staff from the New Horizon School Bahrain and the New Indian School held special yoga sessions yesterday. A free Iyengar yoga event was also held at Al Najma Club in Juffair.
