Bahrain 'best place for expats'
A TOP diplomat has described Bahrain as 'the best in the region'Â when it comes to treating expatriate labourers. Indian Ambassador Dr Mohan Kumar spoke to the GDN at yesterday's open house at the embassy in Adliya. His tenure will end next month and he will be replaced by newly-appointed ambassador Alok Kumar Sinha, who is the current Indian External Affairs Ministry joint secretary. 'I cannot conceal that I am sorry to leave the country and I think any envoy who has served in Bahrain will feel the same,'Â he said. 'A lot of successful things have happened during these years and I couldn't have done them without the support of the country. 'Without any doubt, the legal framework in Bahrain is the best in the region and the example for that is its labour mobility. 'The way the country treats Indian expatriates is very good as well.'Â Dr Kumar also renewed calls to resolve the issue of travel bans imposed on expatriate workers. 'The law in Bahrain is perfect but there are some problems we face with the implementation of the law such as travel bans and people not knowing that they have one imposed on them,'Â he said. 'There needs to be some way to inform expatriates if they have a travel ban dealing with unpaid debts or any verdicts. 'Some people decide to travel and only know about it when they are already at the airport which can cause an uncomfortable situation that can be avoided. 'The problem might be people not receiving the court document due to a change in address or telephone number, which is a big problem in Bahrain.'Â Source:gulfdailynews http://www.gulf-daily-news.com/NewsDetails.aspx?storyid=398778 |
